On 03.03.2025, a “Discussion about the Problem Identification and Business Opportunities" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Information Technology. The session was handled by Mr. S. M. Sunder Rajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli, from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM. 53 Students and 2 faculty members participated. This event was coordinated by Mr. F. Richard Singh Samuel, AP/IT. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Lourdes Poobala Rayen, EDC Director.

The session introduced the concept of problem identification as a critical foundation for recognizing and leveraging business opportunities. The speaker emphasized that defining a problem is essential for developing effective, innovative solutions. Rather than jumping to conclusions, participants explored methodologies for deeply understanding challenges, considering user needs, market gaps, and systemic inefficiencies.

The discussion highlighted that an open, analytical, and research-driven approach fosters clarity, enabling entrepreneurs to uncover hidden opportunities. Participants understand how structured frameworks such as root cause analysis, customer pain point mapping, and industry trend evaluation can help in identifying high-potential business ideas.

The discussion further underscored that identifying problems and opportunities is an iterative process that involves continuous validation, feedback, and refinement. Students were encouraged to engage with stakeholders, experiment with different perspectives, and remain flexible in adapting to new insights. The session concluded with the key takeaway that problem identification is not just about recognizing challenges but about transforming them into viable, impactful, and sustainable business opportunities through strategic thinking and execution.
