On 28.2.2025 a session on “From Idea to Launch: Entrepreneurship for Budding Engineers” was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of AI&DS. The session was handled by Mrs.M.Thana Lakshmi AP/MBA Francis Xavier Engineering College. Fifty nine students from first year AI&DS-A and one faculty participated in the program. The program was coordinated by Mrs.P.Sooriabrabha, Assistant Professor, Department of AI&DS from 9.0AM – 12.30PM.
The program started with the introduction of the guest speaker by Mrs.P.Sooriabrabha. The guest speaker said that entrepreneurship for budding engineers is a dynamic journey that transforms innovative ideas into tangible products or services. The first step involves in identifying a problem or market need that aligns with the engineer’s skills or expertise. Following this, engineers need to ideate solutions, prototype their ideas, and test them through a lean approach, adjusting as needed. A solid business plan must be crafted, detailing the product, target market, and financial projections. Engineers must also be prepared to learn the fundamentals of business, including marketing, sales, and management, to effectively promote their product. Networking with potential partners, investors, and mentors is crucial for growth and scalability.
Legal considerations, such as patents, trademarks, and business structure, must also be considered. Once the product is ready, a go-to-market strategy is developed to launch successfully. The ability to pivot when faced with challenges and feedback is a key. As the business expands, engineers must focus on leadership, team-building, and refining processes for sustainability. Continuous learning, adaptability, and resilience are essential traits for successful entrepreneurship. Finally, maintaining passion and staying focused on long-term goals ensures the venture’s viability and growth. Students gained knowledge and gathered lot of information about the business ideas and how to convert the ideas in to business opportunities.
