On 03.03.2025, a Workshop on “Design Thinking: A Tool for Problem Solution Fit" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Information Technology. The session was handled by Dr. R. Prem Ananth, IIC Convener, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli, from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM. A total of 54 Students and 2 faculty members participated. This event was coordinated by Mr. F. Richard Singh Samuel, AP/IT. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Lourdes Poobala Rayen, EDC Director.
The session introduced design thinking as a structured yet flexible approach to achieving problem-solution fit. The speaker emphasized that understanding user needs deeply and iterating on solutions is essential for developing impactful innovations. Instead of assuming solutions, participants explored methodologies for empathizing with users, defining core problems, and prototyping effective responses.
The discussion highlighted that an open, user-centric, and iterative mindset fosters clarity in aligning solutions with real-world challenges. Participants examined structured frameworks such as user research, rapid prototyping, and continuous feedback loops to refine ideas and enhance their viability. The session stressed that a well-defined problem, paired with iterative solution testing, leads to more sustainable and scalable innovations.
The workshop further underscored that achieving problem-solution fit is a dynamic process requiring continuous learning, adaptability, and stakeholder engagement. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to embrace experimentation, seek diverse perspectives, and refine their solutions based on real-world insights. The session concluded with the key takeaway that design thinking is not just about generating ideas but about validating and implementing them effectively to create meaningful, user-driven impact.
